At some point this year I hit my head and remembered that I liked photography.
Photography these days is not something we really think about. Most of us just pull out our phones snap a picture, slap it on whatever our preferred social media is, and keep it pushing.
That is unless you are in the entertainment industry where cosplaying, foodtography, and the like require a bit more than a phone camera. Don't get me wrong phone cameras have come a very long way from being a luxury to being better than most digital cameras that you can order from Amazon. As a matter of fact I do believe some people have whole photo shoots using just an iPhone and whatever attachments were produced for it.
Anyway though, as I've been really trying to get into my content creator bag I've been wanting to do things like headshots (for profile pictures and applications), fashion shots (just to post and feel good about myself), and just being able to capture moments and the world around me with more depth and clarity than I feel I can get from a phone picture.
Funnily enough when I took up journalism writing in middle school, photography was included as part of the learning process. It wasn't a huge part of it and we had only learned the basics of working with a DSLR. Quick sidebar, this was because not all of us wanted to be writers and often times we needed non-internet images to go with our stories. So you would have a writer put n photography requests or paired with a photographer for their story.
Of course it's been ages since then so a majority of the knowledge is lost to me. Nonetheless, really diving into content creation reawakened what little I did remember and I hoped right to Amazon and bought myself a little digital camera.
I should have waited and gotten a DSLR.
It's not bad but it's basically a bigger phone camera that has helped me get used to holding a camera gain and the pictures while not super sharp and professional have been pretty decent. In a way it was me making sure I wanted to get into photography proper before dropping a big chunk of change on a proper camera.
When I say proper camera, I'm talking about an entry level camera, which so far the most recommended for learning traditional photography has been the Cannon T7. Currently the price of the camera's kit is somewhere in the $400 range new but as the holidays approach I am hoping to see a nice price drop so that I can snatch up the kit along with things like an extra battery and SD cards.
In the meantime I am going to keep my eyes peeled for other recommendations but right now that particular one is my aim and of course from there you know upgrades over time.
If I were a smarter person I would have done some test shots on my current little digital camera to show it off but oh well, tips for next time.
Before I close out I just want to say I am open to discovering more photography content creators. Right now the only one that I follow is named Jessica Kobeissi. Love her humor, reaction videos and most importantly her camera and photography talk! Of course learning via the internet and not in a professional classroom setting or whatever means I should have multiple styles to learn from because each style has it's ups and downs.
Hopefully as I continue to explore photography more I'll discover more and more content creators, and my photography will level up. I have no plans on shooting weddings so don't ask LOL.
So is there a hobby you've picked up recently that you may have dabbled in some time ago?
